Pet Ultrasound
When most people think of ultrasound technology, they tend to associate it with pregnant women getting a glance of their unborn child on a monitor. But at Woodland Animal Hospital, we use ultrasounds for many purposes, such as finding tumors or harmful fluid within the body. Ultrasound is an essential veterinary technology we use for diagnosis in internal medicine.
So, what exactly is ultrasound technology? Well, ultrasonography is the technique of imaging the internal structure of the body without any radiation. Instead, ultrasounds utilize sound waves for imaging. As crazy as it seems, sound waves are emitted from a small handheld tool, called a transducer. These sound waves bounce off the organs before being sent back into the transducer. Finally, this small tool sends the image created by these sound waves to a screen for viewing. This non-invasive and painless tool is often used alongside x-rays for diagnostic purposes. Being sure to always have the highest level of equipment, our ultrasound technology is completely digital. This enables us to easily send pets’ internal images to radiologists for speedy consultations and prognoses.
DIGITAL RADIOLOGY (X-RAY)
Digital radiography is a form of x-ray imaging. These x-rays, or radiographs, allow our highly trained veterinarians to see tissues, organs, and bones in order to examine your pet accurately and efficiently.
There are quite a few reasons to turn to digital radiography. For example, abdominal radiographs can be used if a pet has displayed symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss or weight gain. This internal imaging technology may also be useful for blood screenings to investigate an internal organ, such as the liver or kidneys, for possible abnormalities. Similarly, vets often recommend pets who have difficulty breathing to get a chest radiograph. Further, radiographs can also be utilized to analyze bones and joints.
Like our medical ultrasound services, our radiography technology is completely digital, meaning the images are of a much higher quality compared to those of less-recent radiography equipment and take less time to produce images. These images are presented on a monitor in a matter of seconds and can be sent immediately to specialists for a more thorough assessment. The use of digital technology also greatly reduces pets’ exposure to radiation.
PET LASER THERAPY
Woodland Animal Hospital uses a state-of-the-art, class IV therapeutic K-Laser® as an additional aid against both chronic and acute pain. This treatment is non-invasive and will typically reduce healing time and increase comfort. In a process known as photobiostimulation, this low-level laser stimulates the body to heal itself at a more rapid rate than other treatments by improving circulation to the surrounding tissues, resulting in:

K-Laser treatments normally last three to eight minutes per site, depending on the area being treated and the reason for treatment—no anesthesia is required. Your pet will be very comfortable, as our K-Laser produces only a soothing warmth in the inflamed tissue. The number of treatments needed and the time between treatments depends on the condition being treated. The specifics of these questions can be answered by your veterinarian during your visit.
